Description

1-semester seminar.
Unlike analysis based on sheet music, auditory analysis relies entirely on one’s own perception. How do we organize what we hear? How can notes serve as a memory aid? How can knowledge of form, counterpoint, and aural training be applied to the analysis of music heard? Using appropriate examples from various eras and styles, students will analytically explore formal, harmonic, and stylistic aspects of music through group work, discovering many beautiful works in the process and expanding their knowledge of the repertoire.
