This course examines the development of music history in the 20th century and the present day. Analyses of selected compositions aim to illustrate the development and diversity of New Music—from the breakthroughs and innovations of the early decades to certain aesthetic phenomena of the present day—though, of course, even here we can only touch upon a few key stages and processes. However, it is not only the compositional premises of 20th-century composers and our (roughly) contemporary counterparts that are worth reflecting on, but also our own relationship to New Music.
