Description

The Big Band of the School Music Department at the Hamburg University of Music and Drama—known as the SchuMu Big Band for short—was founded in 2015 and is directed by Michel Schroeder. The School of Music Big Band is composed of teacher-training students but is also open to interested students from other degree programs. With a repertoire that changes each semester—featuring swing, Latin, soul, disco, and hip-hop—the band performs regularly in clubs, at college parties, and, of course, in the university’s own JazzHall. The band particularly wows the audience with Michel Schroeder’s original arrangements of well-known pop songs, which are sung by the students and presented in a spectacular fashion.
