DIRECTING ACTING
6 unit developments in December 2023 and January 2024
Saturday, 01/20/2024 19:00 HfMT Campus Barmbek, Große Bühne

One might think that the ritual and the development of the piece are opposites. While one is characterized by repetition and regularity, the other is dedicated to new creation and experimentation. And yet both practices share a common function: they are used to rehearse the world. Both show how we give expression to our perception of the world, how we can describe and structure it. And so the ritual stands at the beginning of six play development processes that both organize and disorganize the world: How can we examine, deconstruct and unlearn ritualized knowledge? How do we design relationships when we create them ritually? And what world can we (re)discover in ritual?
As archaeologists, investigators, inventors and lovers, 6 directing students and their ensembles embark on a search for new forms of ritual gathering in the theater and their testing. About the disintegration of language and the group. About the end of humanity and heteronormativity. On becoming animal and becoming us.

What holds us together? A round table, the heart in the right place, the belief in a myth? The Knights of the Round Table are gearing up for their all-important quest: the search for the Holy Grail. But what is at the end of the quest? The knights are confronted with themselves and what they mean beyond themselves - as a group, a team, a band, with shared ideals, shared memories and an uncertain future.

Perhaps only the naming makes a landslide and all other characteristics have long since become coincidental, something no longer recognizable from an old book.
Four figures reconstruct the course of a catastrophe. Knowledge reassures. The past and the future are equally alien to them. This is how landslides begin. Yes. That's how it was. And now comes the light.
It's probably fish that survive us, and the birds.
