For the eighth time, the Masterclass for Master Opera students, supported by the Lucia Thörl Foundation, is taking place. At the beginning of the new academic year in the winter semester, the opera class invites an internationally renowned singer to Hamburg for all Master Opera students - this year the soprano Dorothea Röschmann. Over the course of several days of intensive collaboration, the students benefit from the vocal and performing experience of a long career on the great opera stages. With this final concert, the Master Opera students present the results of the Masterclass.

We are very pleased that we were able to win the soprano Dorothea Röschmann for this year's Masterclass. Dorothea Röschmann was born in Flensburg and was a long-standing ensemble member at the Staatsoper Berlin, where she was also appointed Kammersängerin in 2017. Guest appearances have taken her to the major European opera houses (Vienna State Opera, La Monnaie, Opéra Bastille, Bavarian State Opera, etc.) where she has thrilled audiences with roles such as the Field Marshal, Countess Almaviva, Donna Elvira and Anne Trulove. She has also appeared on opera stages beyond Germany and Europe, for example several times at the MET as Susanna, Pamina, Elvira and Ilia. In addition to her operatic career, Dorothea Röschmann is an internationally sought-after concert singer. As a renowned Lied interpreter, she has performed in London's Wigmore Hall, Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, Vienna's Konzerthaus and in Antwerp, Lisbon, Madrid, Cologne, Brussels, Oslo, at the festivals in Edinburgh, Munich and Schwarzenberg. She has performed with Daniel Barenboim at the Schiller Theater in Berlin and at the Pierre Boulez Saal.

Many CD recordings bear witness to Dorothea Röschmann's artistic work, including two CDs on the Sony Classical label: her debut album Portraits was released in 2014 and a recording of Mozart arias with Daniel Harding and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in 2015, both of which were highly praised by critics.
