The SPIIC+ Ensemble embarks on a fascinating journey through time, in which the spaceship "HARPSICHORD ONE" and its adventurous international crew search for new transition portals between the dimensions of the musical past, present and future. They will fly to well-known planets such as "CPE BACH" and "G LIGETI" but also explore shining fixed stars of the musical cosmos such as "NEW JAZZ" and "COM-PROVISATION". The logbook not only records fascinating journeys through the eras of music history, but also close encounters with dazzling comets such as "MICRO TONALITY" and "SPATIAL AUDIO" as well as other exciting stellar moments in inner and outer space.
Especially for this evening, the SPIIC+ ensemble, which is made up of top-class international students from various musical disciplines, has put together a program in which the harpsichord takes center stage as a kind of musical time capsule. Based on selected historical milestones in harpsichord literature, the ensemble has looked for new ways to bring tradition, modernity, the present and the avant-garde, each with their different approaches, methods and aesthetic ideals, into a contemporary dialog and at the same time to transform them into a creative musical practice in which the traditional separation of composition, improvisation and performance is overcome and rethought and practiced in a holistic sense.
The acronym SPIIC+ stands for Social Performance, Interdisciplinary Improvisation & Creativity and is a sub-project of the ligeti center/ creative research lab. which, under the direction of Vlatko Kučan, understands and investigates improvisation as an independent position in the sense of a fundamental ethical attitude, as a social interaction design and as a universal creative method not only of artistic production. The SPIIC+ Ensemble, made up of students from various degree programs, plays a central role in this - as an instrument of artistic research, a place of social exchange and, last but not least, as an essential vehicle for concrete artistic production. Since its foundation in 2018, the SPIIC+ Ensemble has been involved in numerous projects, concerts and festivals. It has received international acclaim for its performances at the "Bauforum Magistralen" (Hamburg, 2019), "TENOR 2021 - International Conference on Technologies for Music Notation and Representation" (Hamburg, 2021) and "WAC2022 - International Web Audio Conference" (2022, Cannes), where the SPIIC Ensemble performed the highly acclaimed closing concerts."
