This year's JazzHall SummerFestival once again offers an exciting mix of young talents, Hamburg's jazz scene and internationally renowned artists, who together bring the whole spectrum of jazz to life on stage. Whether jazz newcomer or long-time enthusiast - this festival invites everyone to embark on a musical journey and celebrate the diversity of jazz. For the free open-air program, we open the glass front of the JazzHall in the afternoon, with concerts taking place in the hall in the evening with ticket sales. As a bonus, the audience can expect a varied gastronomic offer on the JazzHall meadow as well as a free, family-friendly supporting program!
We are particularly pleased that this year's festival is under the patronage of Maryam Blumenthal, Hamburg's Senator for Science, Research and Equality.
Open-air concerts
On festival afternoons, we open the glass front of the JazzHall to the Outer Alster to bring a free open-air program outside. Performers on stage include up-and-coming bands from the Hamburg State Youth Music School, the exceptional Brazilian drummer Kiko Freitas, the Hamburg soul indie pop project FiNDiNG CLEO, the Birdland Brothers with a jam session and the AMELIA Quartet, who will be performing together with British rapper Manny Noir. The seats are located on the steps of the amphitheater in front of the JazzHall.
Evening concerts in the JazzHall
To make it possible to experience live music in the atmosphere of our concert hall with its excellent acoustics, we offer concerts with ticket sales on the festival evenings. We also invite inexperienced jazz listeners to join us - because our program with local and internationally renowned artists offers something for every taste: from powerful big band sounds to rhythmic piano trios, virtuoso drum solos to vocals, electronic experiments, string arrangements and timeless bebop!
Artist in Residence: Julian Sartorius
A special feature of the SummerFestival is the three-day visit of our Artist in Residence. This year's guest is the virtuoso percussionist and sound researcher Julian Sartorius from Switzerland. Sartorius has played with Sophie Hunger's band, recorded with Collin Vallon for ECM and reaches millions of people on the Internet with his "Urban Drumming" videos.
Sartorius will perform in the JazzHall on three evenings, each with its own theme. Not least due to the exciting stage encounters with various Hamburg musicians, these concert evenings will be very different from each other and each time will unfold a very unique energy.
Gastronomy and supporting program
In addition to musical highlights, there will also be plenty of gastronomic delights to discover on the festival days! Cornelia Poletto's team will contribute significantly to the unique atmosphere of the JazzHall SummerFestival with cool drinks and first-class street food. Poletto and her team attach great importance to high-quality ingredients and an appealing presentation - and thus make the gastronomic offer a real highlight of the festival.
As a further bonus, we have put together a free, family-friendly supporting program that will delight young and old: in addition to a colourful summer make-up station, we offer a flair drumming concert, potato printing, a variety of toys on the JazzHall meadow, hula hoops, giant soap bubbles and much more.
