The study program

The Dr. Langner Jazzmaster (Master of Music) is the exclusive study program for the jazz artists of a new generation. Highly customizable and with plenty of room for ideas, this two-year Master's program allows you to turn your visions into reality. The Dr. Langner Jazzmaster is aimed at the individual development of the students' artistic personality and is designed to support them in realizing their artistic vision.

The core element of the Dr. Langner Jazzmaster is to strengthen their own skills and to offer students many opportunities to actively implement their artistic ideas. The course accompanies students on their way to becoming strong artists who not only have their own ideas and visions, but who can also turn them into reality in order to help shape a constantly changing world through their own artistic impulses.

The highly individual nature of the course is characterized by personal study goals, which are realized with an open choice of lecturers and an individual curriculum. Students are free to design their own course of study and have access to a competent mentoring team in order to make the best possible use of the framework offered by the Dr. Langner Jazz Master's and to work together to develop their study goals into a feasible study plan.

Areas of study in the Dr. Langner Jazzmaster

Special features of the Dr. Langner Jazzmaster

Free choice of lecturer
The Dr. Langner Jazzmaster study program offers a clear study framework with specific milestones and a large number of compulsory musical performances. Within this clear framework, however, students have almost infinite freedom of individual choice, especially with regard to the lecturers and teachers they wish to work with.
In the instrumental core area, for the supervision of their own Jazzmaster ensemble, for the additional focus and, of course, for the choice of guest in the artist-in-residence project, students can make a large number of decisions themselves. In addition to choosing from the top-class team of lecturers on the jazz course at the HfMT, it is also possible to consult lecturers outside the HfMT team of lecturers.

Mentoring
In order to ensure consistent support throughout the two years of study, each student in the Dr. Langner Jazzmaster is accompanied by a competent mentor. The mentors have a great deal of experience with the study program, are competent experts on the German jazz scene and have many years of experience as educators, which makes them ideal companions on the students' individual path through the Master's program.

Artist-in-Residence project
Artistic work here finds its way from the rehearsal room to the stage. In the Dr. Langner Jazzmaster, this process of bringing one's own music to the stage is realized with a guest artist project (artist-in-residence project) as part of the course. This practical supplement combines musical training with the opportunity to further develop and present one's own musical material with nationally and internationally renowned artists. The project is a unique opportunity to learn from inspiring artists in the real musical process and also to build a network that lasts long after graduation.
The project takes place in the third semester of study, the practical semester. An application for funding for this project will be drawn up with the seminar management so that the project can receive additional financial support from the HfMT Hamburg. Once the project has been completed, the usual proof of use will be provided.
Of course, all the usual resources of the HfMT are available to support the implementation of the project.
