Description

The seminar provides comprehensive knowledge about the fundamental dimensions and discourses of gendered bodies. The aim is to create a common level of knowledge and to provide insights into historical references, social norms, social positioning, technologies and practices of gendered bodies.
Students are enabled to analyze the perception and construction of bodies in different contexts (e.g. sports, violence, body modifications) and to think critically about their own gendered physicality. The seminar offers insights into various theoretical and methodological perspectives on gendered bodies. These include concepts such as social constructivism and performativity (West & Zimmerman, Butler), intersectionality (Crenshaw) or techniques of the self (Möhring). Finally, these concepts will be reflected upon and queer perspectives will be included.

The seminar will be conducted by Ms. Hannah Sommerschuh, M.A.
