The Đàn bầu is a Vietnamese instrument. It belongs to the family of box zithers and has only one string. However, it offers a wide range of virtuosic playing techniques. The string is plucked with a pick, and its pitch can be adjusted by moving a flexible rod (string tension). This allows for various glissandos, as well as—by placing the palm of the hand on the string—wonderful harmonics.
