Description

How does a musical idea evolve into a performable piece for a wide variety of ensembles? How can music be adapted so that it becomes lively, flexible, and sonically diverse in school, music school, or general educational contexts?

This seminar focuses on students’ own musical ideas. Students will develop and refine arrangements, instrumentations, and intercultural adaptations of existing music. The goal is to consciously expand the musical spectrum and open up new approaches to making music together—in schools as well as at music schools.

The goal of the seminar is to write practice-oriented arrangements for group music-making in a wide variety of ensembles: from heterogeneous classroom ensembles to mixed groups at music schools to open instrumental formations. In doing so, the seminar takes into account different performance levels, instrumental requirements, and pedagogical situations, as they are encountered in particular in the day-to-day teaching at schools and music schools.

The notation software Dorico is used to carry out the exercises; no prior knowledge is required. Through practical examples, collaborative analysis, and hands-on application, participants will deepen their understanding of the material, test it in practice, and reflect on their experiences.

The seminar is designed for anyone who wants not only to interpret music but also to shape it, adapt it, and make it playable for others.
