DIRECTING ACTING
6 unit developments in December 2023 and January 2024
Thursday, 12/21/2023 19:00 HfMT Campus Barmbek, Große Bühne

One might think that the ritual and the development of the piece are opposites. While one is characterized by repetition and regularity, the other is dedicated to new creation and experimentation. And yet both practices share a common function: they are used to rehearse the world. Both show how we give expression to our perception of the world, how we can describe and structure it. And so the ritual stands at the beginning of six play development processes that both organize and disorganize the world: How can we examine, deconstruct and unlearn ritualized knowledge? How do we design relationships when we create them ritually? And what world can we (re)discover in ritual?

As archaeologists, investigators, inventors and lovers, 6 directing students and their ensembles embark on a search for new forms of ritual gathering in the theater and their testing. About the disintegration of language and the group. About the end of humanity and heteronormativity. About becoming animal and becoming us.
