People from many different countries study and work at the University of Music and Theater. The language of instruction and work is mostly German, and the majority of students speak German and feel comfortable using it. In the English-language degree programs, English is the primary language for teaching and communication; German is also used in most cases.
However, some students have only just begun learning German, which means that language barriers can sometimes lead to minor or major challenges in university life. Language-related issues with organizational matters may arise in the context of instruction. Sometimes important information may not be understood. Or language barriers may arise when dealing with German authorities. We will try to provide targeted assistance in these situations.

Exchange and guest students
Applicants wishing to spend a guest stay at Hochschule für Music and Drama should first contact the International Office at their home university. The prerequisite is a cooperation agreement between the participating universities (Inter-Institutional Agreement) or the intention to do so. Please note that the language of instruction at HfMT is mostly German.
