Scholarships

HfMT offers a limited number of scholarships for international students pursuing a degree. Applications can be submitted at the beginning of each summer semester, and the selection is made by HfMT’s International Working Group (AKI). The offerings vary from year to year, so we recommend scheduling an individual consultation at the International Office:

• MeritScholarship: A scholarship from the Hamburg Authority for Science, Research, and Equality—for students with outstanding academic achievements.
• Scholarship for Highly Committed and HelpfulStudents: Funded by the German Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs—for students who are particularly committed to helping others and have good language skills.
• Inclusion Scholarship: Scholarshipto promote greater equality of opportunity, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs—for students with a refugee background, children, first-generation students, or health issues
• Graduation Scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD): Graduation scholarship from the DAAD, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs—for students who plan to graduate in the current or next semester.

We have changed the application process to an online-only format . “Paper” applications are no longer accepted. Here is the link to our application portal

Deadline for all scholarships = May¹⁵ of each year!

Please make sure you have the following documents ready to upload to the online portal (in PDF format):

• Current certificate of enrollment from the HfMT
• Curriculum vitae in table format
• A recent letter of recommendation from an HfMT instructor (no older than 1 year)
• Proof of academic achievements at the HfMT = ToR (Transcript of Records; available from the Student Office; please be sure to request the ToR at least 4 weeks before the deadline!)
• If applicable, a list of courses from previous semesters that have not yet been recorded in the ToR
• Bank statements for the last 3 months (checking account and, if applicable, blocked account)
• Copy of your high school diploma (e.g., Abitur, High School Diploma, A-Levels, Baccalauréat, etc.)

If you are also applying for one of the“Engagement”and/or“Inclusion”tracks, you will also need

• Proof of social engagement (e.g., certificates, references, etc.), no older than 2 years (for the “special commitment” criterion)
• Signed Declaration of Honor (for the “greater equality of opportunity” criterion); it can be downloaded from the application portal once it opens
