Scholarships for international students
In addition to the scholarships for all students, there are special scholarships aimed at international students. Applications can be submitted at the beginning of each semester, and the selection is made by HfMT's International Working Group (AKI). The offer varies from year to year, so we recommend an individual consultation at the International Office.
Scholarships offered by HfMT: New Deadline =15th May of each year!
- Meritscholarship: Merit scholarship of the Hamburg authority for science, research and equality. Students with outstanding achievements.
- Scholarship for highly committed and helpfulstudents: Scholarship for highly committed and helpful students, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs - for students who are particularly committed to help others and have good language skills.
- Abschlussstipendium des Deutschen Akademischen Austauschdienstes (DAAD): Completion scholarship of the DAAD, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs - for students who plan to graduate in the current or the next semester.
We highly recommend students who intend to apply for this option to also apply for the Examination Support at the Studierendenwerk Hamburg (see below). The financial volume for examination support at the Studierendenwerkis 10 times higher than at HfMT, so chances there are a lot better.
The scholarship process is currently under revision. You will find the new, fully online application here in mid March 2026 . We highly advise that you start preparing your application for the call May15th now. Please make sure you that have the following documents available to upload into our new online portal (in PDF format):
- Current certificate of enrolment from the HfMT

The DAAD Prize is awarded annually to an excellent foreign student.
