Pilot Project
In the pilot project “HipHop Academy Certificate@HfMT” (HfMT), Dr. Benjamin Sprick, Dr. Bilinç Ercan-Catanzaro, and Jan Schlüter are developing a joint program between the university and the HipHop Academy.
In workshop-style sessions, students and faculty collaborate to develop teaching and practical formats that bridge urban hip-hop culture and academic instruction.
This innovative collaboration creates a model for educational and cultural exchange, talent development, and social impact.
This project, the only one of its kind in Germany, leverages the HipHop Academy’s deep roots in the urban scene as well as the diverse artistic and academic expertise of the HfMT, particularly the “Cultural Studies Hip Hop” seminar, which has been in place since 2025.
Course content includes, among other things:
Hip-Hop Dance / Breaking
Rap Technique / Song Development
Beat Production
DJ School
Self-Promotion / Music Industry
Introduction to the History of Hip-Hop
Credit Points for Students: Upon completion of the semester, participants receive credit points and an official certificate from the HfMT.
