Choral Conducting/Music will be offered at the HfMT HH for the first time in the winter semester 2026/27. The application period therefore begins on March 31 and ends on April 30, 2026, in deviation from the regular deadline.

Prerequisites

  • Bachelor's, diploma or master's degree in choral conducting or
  • completed Bachelor's or Master's degree in the teaching profession with music as a teaching subject or
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in church music or
  • completed Bachelor's or Master's degree in a comparable music course at a university. A course of study in which choral conducting, orchestral conducting or ensemble conducting is a curricular component of the course is comparable.

Entrance examination requirements

The entrance examination consists of the following components:

1. practical examination in the main subject of choral conducting (approx. 30 minutes), choir rehearsal with a choral piece unknown to the choir, which will be communicated two weeks before the examination (20 minutes) and choir rehearsal with a choral piece known to the choir from a list to be chosen by the applicant (10 minutes)
- discussion with the commission about the choice of piece and the course of the rehearsal

2. extended examination in the main subject, each prepared and sight-read (approx. 30 minutes)

- sight-singing of a difficult choral passage

3rd examination in piano (approx. 15 minutes)
Performance of two moderately difficult works, one from the Baroque or Classical period and one from the Romantic or contemporary period

4th examination in singing (approx. 15 minutes)
Performance of three works from different eras and of different character

5. oral-practical examination in music theory (approx. 15 minutes)
Proof of mastery of major-minor tonal harmony and other compositional techniques (also based on presented literature)
Playing and explaining difficult cadenzas and modulations

6. examination in aural training (approx. 15 minutes)
Listening to, determining and reproducing difficult intervals, also over long distances, chords, chord combinations and rhythms

The entrance examination will take place on site at the university and is expected to take place on 01.06.2026.
