Opera singing entrance exam

The application period for the winter semester 2025/26 begins on 15.02.25 and ends on 01.04.25.

The following steps are required for a successful application to the Opera Singing/Music degree program within the application deadline:

• Receipt of online application incl. upload of supporting documents*
• Receipt of application fee (payment information at the end of the completed online application)
• Upload video

Your application will only be considered if all the steps described have been completed in full within the application deadline and the online application, application fee and video have been received.

*Please note that proof of German language skills (min. B1 level) must also be submitted by the application deadline

After the application deadline, a pre-selection will be made from the applications received on the basis of the videos and this selection will be invited to a 2nd selection round (probably on site).

Below you will find further information on the requirements for the entrance exam.

For the video recording exam, the following works must be recorded and uploaded as a video within the application deadline:

• at least 4 songs/arias from at least 2 stylistic periods
  • of which 2 opera arias (duration 20 min)

At the beginning of the video, please briefly introduce yourself orally (max. 3 min.) and then hold your program up to the camera.

Technical information on video recording:

• fixed camera perspective: Body and face must be fully visible at all times
• Songs/arias can be recorded individually
• all songs/arias must be combined into one video

Public recordings can be submitted as long as they meet the above conditions (no editing).

The 2nd round of the entrance examination is expected to take place as an on-site examination at the university. You will be informed of the binding date in the invitation after the pre-selection from the 1st round of the video screening

The following works must be prepared:

• 5 opera arias
  • at least one aria in German or translated into German
  • one aria is to be staged
• a dramatic German text to be performed on stage

All works must be performed from memory.

It is possible for members of the entrance examination committee to work on them scenically and/or musically.
