Description

The course focuses on the question of how music education can create spaces for encounter in a diverse, post-migrant society. The selection of repertoire plays a particularly important role here: What music do we bring into educational settings—and what notions of cultural belonging, tradition, and aesthetic value do we convey through it?

Using selected scholarly literature, musical examples, and their own practical experience, students explore the formation of musical canons and the expansion of existing repertoires, as well as concepts of transcultural music education. Singing together and vocal group work serve as a direct practical setting where questions of repertoire, identification, and teaching can be experienced firsthand.

As part of the HfMT’s school sponsorship project, students observe and test various methodological approaches in working with children and, based on these, develop their own strategies for a pedagogically sophisticated and transculturally reflective teaching practice.

The course is specifically designed for students from all disciplines who are interested in music education and/or transcultural perspectives. Prior experience in school music or choral conducting is not required.
