The application period for the 2027/28 winter semester for the bachelor’s degree programs in school music begins on December 1, 2026, and ends on April 1, 2027. For the master’s degree programs in school music, the application period for the 2027/28 winter semester begins on February 15, 27, and ends on April 1, 27.
To successfully apply to teach school music as part of a teacher education program, the following steps must be completed within the application period:
- Submission of the online application, including upload of supporting documents
- Receipt of the application fee (payment information is provided at the end of the completed online application)
Your application will only be considered if all the steps described above are fully completed within the application period and both the online application and the application fee have been received.
New: Starting in the 2025/26 winter semester, the saz/bağlama can also be selected as an artistic subject in the teacher education program. Further information is available in the online application.

Intensive music theory course
In cooperation with the Deutscher Tonkünstler:innenverband Hamburg, an intensive course in music theory and aural training is offered and recommended, further information on registration can be found here.
Information event
The dates for the annual information event with exam simulation for the entrance examination are published here and on the website of the Bundesverband Musikunterricht (BMU).
The information event is recommended as preparation for the entrance examination. It is organized in cooperation with the Young Forum Music Teaching Hamburg (JFM). This initiative is made up exclusively of students and, as a bridge between studying and working, promotes dialog between prospective students, students, trainee teachers and teachers, e.g. also through its own workshops.
