Laboratory for new forms of theater
Thursday, 05/29/2025 15:00 Thalia in der Gaußstraße

For the 21st time, the Körber Studio Junge Regie will bring together the theater generation of the future in Hamburg. From May 28 to June 1, 2025, students from the directing courses at German-speaking universities will present their productions, which have been nominated for the festival by the universities. They will interact with the audience and visitors from the German-speaking theater scene. As a laboratory for new forms of theater, the festival presents a wide range of topics and aesthetic approaches that the invited young theater makers deal with and offers space for discussions about production approaches and working methods. Over five days, a total of 13 productions are on the program at the festival center in the Thalia in Gaußstraße and at the Theaterakademie am Wiesendamm, including a production from Budapest, Hungary, by this year's international guest university Freeszfe in cooperation with the Katona József Theater. The festival is a joint project of the Thalia Theater, the Körber Foundation and the Theaterakademie Hamburg under the patronage of the German Stage Association.

Festival opening: The festival will open with a speech by Rania Mleihi on the subject of "Resilience". Rania Mleihi is a dramaturge, theater maker and systemic coach. She was born in Syria and worked at the Damascus National Theater as a director and dramaturge. She has lived in Germany since 2015 and has worked at Schauspiel Hannover and Theater an der Ruhr, among others. She has been a member of the artistic management team at the Münchner Kammerspiele since 2020.

This year's contribution of the HfMT is the final production of Tristan Linder:

SANDMANN

Studiobühne (Thalia Gaußstraße), Thursday May 29 at 21:00
Duration 60 minutes

Obsessed by the gloomy Sandman, Nathanael becomes increasingly distant from his friends Clara and Lothar, who cannot - or do not want to - understand his feelings. They struggle to understand, cheer each other up, pull each other down and try not to lose sight of each other any further. As Nathanael increasingly sinks into the dream world of the Sandman, he meets the mysterious Olimpia, who is perhaps the only one who can really see him. How much darkness are we allowed if we always have to function? And who understands me when you can't do it anymore? Based on Hoffmann's classic novel of gothic romance and artificially generated texts, three humans and an AI play against alienation from one another.
