Transverse flute entrance exam

The application period for the summer semester 2026 begins on 01.12.26 and ends on 10.01.26 (only applies to the postgraduate course Konzertexamen). For the winter semester 2026/27, the application period begins on 15.02.26 and ends on 01.04.26

For a successful application to the Instrumental Music Transverse Flute program, the following steps are required within the application deadline:

• Receipt of online application incl. upload of supporting documents
• Receipt of application fee (payment information at the end of the completed online application)
• Upload video link

Your application will only be considered if all the steps described have been completed in full by the application deadline and the online application, application fee and video have been received.

After the application deadline, a pre-selection will be made from the applications received on the basis of the videos and this selection will be invited to a 2nd selection round (probably on site).

Below you will find further information on the requirements for the entrance exam.

For the video pre-selection in the entrance examination, the following works must be prepared as repertoire and presented in the video for 15 minutes:

• a Telemann Fantasy for flute solo
• a classical concerto (1st movement, e.g. Mozart, Stamitz, Quantz)
• an etude (e.g. Andersen op.15) or a work for flute solo (e.g. Honegger, Ibert, Bozza)

A video must be prepared from the overall repertoire in accordance with the following requirements.

The maximum length of the video is 15 minutes.

The video must be uncut and unedited, the pieces must be played without repetitions. The video should be recorded from a fixed camera perspective: The applicant's body and face must be fully visible at all times.

Please note that the video can only be considered if

• the format is correct (=mp4)
• the video can be opened without errors
• the video is correctly named

Three complete works from three stylistic periods must be prepared for the second round of the entrance examination on site.

They must include a baroque piece for solo flute, i.e. either the Solo Sonata in A minor by C.P.E. Bach, the Partita in A minor for solo flute by J.S. Bach, Marin Marais - "Le Folies de Espagne" (theme and at least 12 variations) or two fantasies by Telemann.

In addition, scales, third-octave scales and arpeggios in major and minor (harmonic) should be performed over approx. 3 octaves, freely arranged in different tempi, rhythms and articulations and in a form based on Taffanel Gaubert, M. Moyse or similar.

Works from the digital selection round may be repeated.
