Acting entrance exam

The application period for the Acting/BA program for the summer semester of 2027 begins on October 15, 2026, and ends on January 10, 2027.

To ensure a successful application, the following steps must be completed by the application deadline:

• Submission of the online application, including the upload of supporting documents
• Receipt of the application fee (payment information is provided in the online application)
• Submission of a video link ( to be submitted as an unlisted YouTube video)

Your application will only be considered if all the steps described above are fully completed within the application deadline and both the online application and the application fee have been received.

Below you will find further information on the requirements and subsequent steps of the admissions exam.

The first round of the admissions exam consists of a video pre-selection process. Following the pre-selection, the subsequent rounds will take place on-site. The dates for the on-site admissions exam will be announced here during the application period so that you can plan accordingly.

For the entrance exams for the Acting/BA program, you must prepare a repertoire consisting of a total of three roles from different eras of theatrical literature, as well as a song or a poem (no self-written texts).

At least one of the prepared roles should be appropriate for your age. You should be able to establish a connection between your own life experience and the role. Create specific acting situations that reflect your character’s concerns. The entrance exam is not about reciting memorized texts, but rather about your personal approach to the character.

Round 1 - Entrance Exam (Video):

Round 1 of the entrance exam takes place digitally via a pre-recorded video.

The video is 10 minutes long and includes the following content:

- a short introductory video (“About Me,” max. 2 minutes)

- two roles from your prepared repertoire (see above) (max. 4 minutes each)


(You may then present the third role from your overall repertoire starting in the second round of the entrance exam, if applicable)

Please note:

• At the beginning of the video recording, you must present a role sheet or repertoire list (please hold it up to the camera at the start of the video, display your roles as text on screen, and announce your roles at the beginning of the video)
• The application material must be created exclusively for acting school auditions (no recordings of performances or similar) and must not be older than three months
• A smartphone or computer camera is sufficient for the video recording. A good-quality microphone is recommended, though a smartphone or computer microphone is also acceptable. The acting scenes must be filmed exclusively in long shots (full-body view); it is essential to ensure good lighting and recording quality. Edits within the audition video are only permitted between segments: (Introduction – Cut – Role 1 – Cut – Role 2)

Round 2/3

The 2nd and 3rd rounds of the entrance exam for the Acting/BA program will take place on campus in person. Please note that invitations to the 2nd round are expected to be sent out no earlier than late January/early February.



To help you plan ahead: The second round is expected to take place in February 2027.

A further selection process will follow even after the second round. You will receive an invitation to the third round only after passing the second round.



Requirements for the second round: In the second round, you will present your entire repertoire in person before the entire selection committee. During this round, the committee may work with you on individual roles. It is also possible that, after you pass the second round, the committee will assign you a task for the third round.



Requirements for the third round: In the third round, you may also be given various improvisation tasks in the areas of acting, voice, speech, singing, and movement.

Following the video-based preliminary selection, the second and third rounds of the entrance exam will take place on-site in Hamburg .
